![]() He's right on the borderline, so it may be that he gets a newer style gauge cluster depending on what Malibu has &/or can get. Malibu says that it keeps 7 model years worth of stock for warranty & replacement parts, after that it's really hit & miss. It goes without saying that whoever broke it should bear the responsibility of replacement. It was tough finding the chrome trim ring version though. I replaced them with the new lowrance Depth/Temp gauge (LST3800) so I could have a radio remote in the gauge cluster. I have a pair of the old style Lowrance depth and temp gauges I could part with. I have held out changing mine since my spare tach has 135 hours and my boat has 430 hours. If you swap out the tach the hours will not be your boat's actual hours. Keep in mind that the tach remembers it's own hours. He is wrong that it may work with other boats, but it will work on your bu. There is a Malibu tach that will work on ebay right now. I have contacted them a couple of times and they were very happy to answer my questions. I called their customer support line and ordered a set of chrome bezels for my 2000 Slxi. The gauge in your boat has a domed lens, the next generation had a flat lens, and now they use something else. Here is the website for the company that made your primary gauges. We have a SUPER great dealer - it pays to have a dealer you can trust in! If your dealer broke them, then they need to replace them. I believe it may be able to use the 83/200 mhz frequency of the Hook CHIRP transducer but it will not be able to access the medium and high range 455/800 mhz functions (ie. The HDS7 can use the standard 83/200 transducer. I brought the boat home & this evening I pulled the cover off & to my horror I noticed all three gauge glass (plastic) are cracked along the bottam edge plus the hour meter is cracked too and one of the switches is cracked where the light shines through!! I've been in my shop for the last hour trying to figure out how in the something like this could have happened! There is no damage anywhere else, obviously its damage from impact of some kind? Since the seat was pulled up as far forward as it can go (I never have it like that) about all I can think of is someone at the marine shop let a young kid play in my boat & with some kind of toy or something beat my gauges into submission!! To say it lightly Im not very happy, & left a nasty phone message at the marine shop. Therefore If the transducer was used for enhanced detail in down imaging you will not get it with that HDS7unit. When comparing transducers they are rated in watts, the more watts the more power (not that it's important when sailing to know whether it's 400' or 600' deep) but the more powerful ducers give more reliable readings, even in shallow water, especially if shooting through a fiberglass hull.A couple of weeks ago I took my boat to Marine shop to get a bunch of chips in the gel coat fixed & repaint the black around the windshield. If it works for your boat a transom mounted ducer can also give you speed through the water which is handy for comparing to your GPS speed across the ground to determine current speed and direction. The advantage of the fishfinder is that it gives a visual trend line for the depth so with just a glance you can tell whether it is getting shallower of deeper without having to monitor the numbers to determine a trend. The transducer is the most important part of the system, and can easily cost more than the instrument (several thousand dollars for some of them, although what you will be looking at will either be included or $1-200). It's best to locate the ducer ahead of the keel if possible and as close to the centerline as you can. The fishfinder has advantages over just a numerical depth display, but it will not show depths any further ahead than a depthsounder (they often use the same transducer). Whether you use a sounder or fishfinder is a matter of preference and mounting space. When the 3500 is first turned on, the depth is in feet. Feet/Meters You can view the water depth in feet or meters. It will track the bottom at speeds over 70 m.p.h. Once it finds the bottom, the 3500 locks onto it and automatically adjusts the sensitivity and noise suppression circuits. A depthsounder is arguably the most important instrument on board. It will give you a water depth reading within seconds.
